Course Description:

Through this course, participants will be introduced to the core principles of Passive House design, focusing on its application within the unique climate and urban context of New York City. Participants will gain a clear understanding of how Passive House design aligns with local energy codes and policies, such as LL97, and other ways Passive House principles are relevant to buildings in NYC. The course covers key Passive House strategies for achieving ultra-low energy consumption, including airtight construction, high-performance insulation, and efficient ventilation systems, highlighting their benefits for building performance, occupant health, and long-term cost savings. Using case studies, participants will learn about real-world performance impacts, financing, and the co-benefits of Passive House design. This session also introduces HPD’s role in supporting high-performance buildings and outlines resources available for further education, technical assistance, and funding opportunities.
